CUPE 8916 Petition Demonstrates Overwhelming Demand for Better Wages

With an impressive 90% of CUPE 8916 members signing the “Workers and Families Can’t Wait” petition for proper compensation, the call for fair treatment resounds loudly! Highlighting the harsh realities of stagnant wages amid a rising cost of living, this petition served as a collective demand for change.

Buoyed by this support, several of our members rallied outside MPP Andrew Dowie’s office to underscore the urgency of our members’ position. Although Dowie was not there to address our concerns personally, a representative from the office accepted the petition on Dowie’s behalf, signaling that the government knows we can — and will — continue to make our voices heard until meaningful action be taken.

On May 8th 2024, Blackburn News, CTV news Windsor and Windsor Star were there to document the first of the several events organized by CUPE locals across the province. To read about and see our members rally on our behalf, check out the links below:

The petition and demonstration served as a powerful reminder to the employer of the growing discontent among those that both deliver and facilitate the delivery of healthcare across Ontario. This collective effort is more than just signatures; it symbolizes a resolute call for dignity and respect in the workplace and a future where every worker receives equitable treatment and fair compensation.

CUPE 8916 would like to thank all members who signed the “Workers and Families Can’t Wait” petition, as well as express special gratitude to those who donated their personal time to stand proud and strong on behalf of all our members and bring awareness to the unconstitutional policies that have put our united family into undue discomfort.

In addition, our union would like to extend thanks to our brothers and sisters in other local HCCSS chapters who have signed similar petitions and organized their own local demonstrations — as well as those who are in the process of doing so. We stand stronger, together!
